Free Film Screening: German Animation Film 1989 – 2006
Friday 29 October, 12pm Grand Social
In co-operation with the Goethe-Institut Ireland, Darklight presents a selection of 14 German animation films from recent years, curated by Ulrich Wegenast, head of the Festival of Animated Film in Stuttgart. His selection reflects the diversity of styles in German animation film without being exhaustive. It includes the two German Oscar-winners “Balance” (1989) by the brothers Lauenstein and “Quest” (1996) by Tyron Montgomery and Thomas Stellmach.
This is an unticketed event and admission is on a first come, first served basis.

Michael Connerty Presents: The Strange and Magical World of Czech Animation
Friday 29 October, 2pm IFI
A rare screening of 35mm prints of films by the masters of Czech puppet and stop-motion animation: Karel Zeman, Jiri Barta, Jan Svankmajer, and Jiri Trnka. The films, by turns arresting and beautiful, odd and surreal, have huge influence in contemporary animation and include a couple of Oscar-winners.

Michael Connerty Presents: Contemporary Animation, the Best of Annecy 2010

Michael Connerty has picked an unmissable selection from this year’s Annecy festival and thrown in some additional treats. Come and see some incredible films – a number of which picked up awards at the festival – animated music videos, and new work by Max Hattler, Malcolm Sutherland and others.

David O’Reilly presents David O'Reilly's Mixtape of Doom

Welcome back to David O’ Reilly, Irish-born Berlin-based animator and winner of Darklight Audience Award 2008. A collection of logic bending neuro-masochistic short films from the past, present and future. Early animation, modern rarities, lost television shows and other slices of meat from the media’s most surreal and succulent tenderloins programmed by David. Also featuring a special preview of his latest film The External World. David O'Reilly will be present at the screening.
