Darklight presents:
The New Screens of Activism ( with Darklight Hero MadamK)
@ Grand Social. 2pm Saturday October 30.
We've watched the dance on Haughey's grave. We've seen the Fianna Fail councillor collapse drunk at the Ard Fheis. Our politicans have given interviews into buttplugs. The phoney socialengagement of flash mob culture has disappeared. We have virals to match our times. There's a new type of activism on screen for a new audience. Everyone needs to get involved - Darklight hero MadamK explains the secrets of sextoy activism and how to give Bertie the hassle he deserves:
“A big truck came and parked outside the Dail in an act of protest about toxic banks. Reporters were later to be seen spinning the story that it had tried to crash through the gates. Later still, politicians were defecating the same thing. We had enough. We produced a butt plug. The politicians seemed to like it.”
To watch MadamK in action:
Madamk will be joined by a panel of invited filmmakers and artists:
Rachel Lysaght, producer The Pipe www.thepipethefilm.com
Eamon Crudden, director/ producer Berlusconi's Mousetrap, Wallets full of Blood, Route Irish
Maya Derrington director/ producer Pyjama Girls, Seaview www.stillfilms.org
Conor McGarrigle, artist, showcasing his namaland iphone app http://www.walkspace.org/namaland/
Individually they have engaged with important issues for Irish society - the Shell-to-Sea protest, our treatment of refugees, the landing of warplanes at Shannon and the ever-present financial crisis.
We will ask them to discuss : Should we all be activists now?
