Make and Do present ‘Journey to the End Of The Night’ in association with Darklight. 'Journey to the End of the Night' is a free street game of epic proportions run by volunteer masterminds in cities around the world. On April 26th, Dublin will be centre stage in an event that invites people to experience the city in a brand new way. Open to everyone, and free to take part in, this race/chase encourages players to explore the city while meeting challenges along the way. Directed by Hilary O’Shaughnessy (Make and Do), Artist-in-Residence at Project Arts Centre, this game will see over 150 people play together on the streets of Dublin as part of this year’s Darklight Festival. Originally designed by SfZero in San Francisco, Journey to the End of the Night puts players in the middle of a cinematic chase scene through a city at night. Inspired by bike messenger alleycat races, urban exploration, capture the flag, parkour, and tag, this game spurs players to test themselves against the city. In keeping with the Darklight Festival’s focus of Independent Creativity, players will stop at locations that reflect and celebrate Dublin’s creativity, encountering groups of hackers and urban artists in their own spaces. With over 5,000 players to date, it is one of the most successful street games in the world. It has been played in San Francisco, New York, London, Los Angeles, Berlin, Chicago, Vienna, and more. This is the first time it will be played in Ireland. Open to people of all fitness levels, this game tests players against the city. It involves one part speed, and one part city smarts.
